1. In terms of the Gazette notification dated 30th October, 2019, the existing energy consumption standards for Room AC are valid till 31st December, 2020 and the revised energy consumption standards are to be made effective from 1st January, 2021.
2. In view of the adverse impact of the COVID -19 pandemic on the business of Indian Air Conditioner manufacturing Industry, the Ministry of Power, Government of India in consultation with Bureau of Energy Efficiency has accorded an in-principle approval to extend the effective date of implementation of revised energy consumption standards which were earlier to be made effective from 1St January, 2021 by a period of 1 year.
3. Accordingly, the existing energy consumption standards for Room Air Conditioners shall be valid for a period of another 1 year starting 1st January, 2021 to 31st December, 2021 while the revised energy consumption standards would be applicable from 1st January, 2022 to 31st December, 2024.
4. Amendment notification in this regard would be issued by the Ministry of Power shortly and made available in public domain once notified in the Gazette of India.
5. In view of the above, BEE’s approval for all the active models which are applicable till 31st December, 2020 would be extended automatically till 31st December, 2021 based on the continuation procedure which would be shared shortly.
